Job hunting in USA vs UK

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences of job hunting in the US vs the UK market, particularly in the IT industry. I recently moved over to Texas, USA from the UK and I've been job hunting for about six months for an IT position (I'm being general as there are a number of roles I could do). I'm now considering our options, such as doing something else or job hunting back in the UK. I wasn't whether I should post this in the "go home" or "stay here" forum as I'm not sure.

It's been about six years years since I did any job hunting, and to be honest it was much easier. I'm trying to figure out if it's the job market right now, or whether it's just easier in the UK vs US. I appreciate the market is tougher, but six months of job hunting for several hours a day, I'd expect more responses.

I've noticed that the unemployment rate is actually lower in the UK (around 7.8%) whereas in US it's around 10% and this state around 8.3%.

When I did a quick comparison it seemed that job postings seem a little more relaxed on requirements in the UK compared to the US. There seems to be less "must have xx years experience" and more "ideally it would be good if you have experience in xxxxx".

My problem is I don't want to fall for the "grass is greener" thing, so any general feedback would be great.

P.S. I have followed advice from recruiters/agents in terms of how to present my resume, and got feedback from a family friend so I'm pretty sure it's not that. I also went on a CV writing course and had it reviewed in the UK before coming here.

Anyone done this? Last summer I grew tomatoes (limited success, I think they got that blight), basil (had way too much of it), cilantro (not enough of it), lettuce (didn't get a single one) and peppers (disappointing).

This year I'm going to go nuts with cilantro and put more effort into lettuce. I'd love garlic though, but I was told it should be planted in the fall...

Any tips? Anyone else have plans for their veggie gardens this year?

...back in the UK of course! Where else would I be referring to? lol

Anyway after spending a few weeks in England I must say that I was impressed with a few places.

Bristol is growing but has retained it's down to earth atmosphere. The new shopping centre is one of the more attractive malls I have been to on either side of the pond. The Waterfront has retained its quaint charm and has had a fresh coat of paint, as it were, with a few new restaurants and pubs. Park Street is exactly the same as when I was there last three years ago. We went the complete tourist route and had cream tea at Browns, a well known cafe/restaurant next to the Bristol Museum on Park Street, in the heart of Bristol.

Worcester, where my brother lives, has some truly spectacular countryside and houses. If I were to move back to the UK, I would love to live Gloucs., Worcs. or Wilts. I love the Southwest of England.

London - We stayed in a very touristy part of South Kensington, which was quite nice. I'm not a big fan of London but we went to a restaurant in Chiswick and that are looked really nice. Probably would cost an arm and a leg to live there but it looked lively but still clean and safe.

Herts -My sister lives about an hour and a half north of London in Herts. This part of the UK is still very traditional English, pretty winding country roads and small pubs. Loved it.

I'm glad to back in the US but I don't think I would feel out of place if I moved back to the UK. The English countryside always makes me feel happy and complete in a weird way. Can't put my finger on why except to say that all my family is in the UK so that's why it still feels a lot like home.
