The Saga continues.

Well as per an earlier post, my wife got her EAD from Dallas.

She then applied to get SSN.

Now, the SS office say her work visa is on Hold status when they check the INS computers!!!!!

I re-checked with her previous INS EAD receipt number and it says they have sent a letter......I can only assume that because they gave her the EaD on the day, the original one has hit the system and they are confused.

OR

could it be becasue she went back to finland and so the I-94 number given to the SS is different from the one given to the INS for the EAD???

Many will say wait for the letter, but the thing is she has a job offer, went to fill in the I-9 and they say they cannot employ her without a SS Number. And even with perfect processing, its gonna be close!

So another question, is there anyway you know of to work without a SSN??? Job starts on the 20 Aug, so not long.

When I applied for my SSN, they gave me a number I could call the next day to find out my SSN if I needed to know before the letter came. Is there no such number for you? Could you try calling the local office? Sometimes they can be quite human if you show genuine need.

Otherwise, does she have a TIN? She could stick that on the form instead and hope they don't notice until the SSN comes through then claim it was an accident and give them the right number.

It sounds very unreasonable that she will miss out on a job because she doesn't have an SSN even though she has an EAD
