Horse lovers,... I am not one of them, will love this movie about people, and their interaction with the horse, but the racing scenes are spectacular, and have never been filmed like this before, the reason I went to see it, the critics say it is already in the running for Oscar. As far as I am concerned horses became obsolescent at the advent of the i.c. motor engine. I do like to see wild horses on the plains, and maybe a clip-clopper in the park, but I guess that is for the poetic types. wink

Good point, The British Army, infact, all armies, were very happy to get rid of the horse and be replaced with the i.c engine. horses took a lot more 'taking care of', man-power, and danger. The only Regiments to-day, that have cavalry, are Household Cavalry, Horse Cavalry, those 'show-off' units that the tourists love. As we all know, one of Britains top money incomes is tourism, also other European cities, even the White House, find it cheaper to display horses, with the changing of the guard, and v.i.p. funerals etc. These remaining horse units, that are for show, have their volunteers well versed in the care and maintenance of horses, and sign on for five years, or longer.
