Hi there,

We need to send home money to the UK to cover our mortgage (house on the rental market, no tenants) on a monthly basis and our only source of income is our wages here. Our US bank here charge us a flat fee of USD 45 for a wire back to the UK - is there a more efficient way of getting money from our US bank to the UK account?

Thanks

In the past I've used Paypal but only for small amounts and only once or twice just so I could write a cheque to a sister for something I asked her to send me.....

I had 2 e-mail addresses One linked to each of two different Paypal accounts, one being a US doller one and the other being a UK pound one and just sent money to myself.......I heard other people talking about that and they said that they've made that impossible now anyway although I've not tried it for a few years.

You'll probably be charged a bundle any way you do it seeing as everything costs something these days.

I suggest just delving into the internet and see if there's some cheaper transfer service going on....there's probably something.
I used to send home a cheque drawn on a bank here in US dollars. Lloyds were happy to process it for a 5 quid fee or so. I don't know if you could do this, but I got my parents to pay it in manually
There's a worldwide system called Moneygram.
They're at

I've used http://www.C2it.com about five or six times to *wire* money into a UK bank account. They are a divsion of Citibank but you do not have to be a Citibank customer to use the service. They charge $15 per transfer. I think it takes three working days to process.

The $15 charge - is that a flat fee? Could you send thousands of $ there for just $15?

Moneygram is ok but I once went to collect some funds sent to me and they had paid it out to some other clown, in another state roll

Took a couple of days to straighten that one out and put me off after that, even though the sender was compensated their fee.
I use C2IT all the time now.

Its actually only a $10 flat fee now, and you don't have to bugger about going down to the bank, just do it all online.

Great for people like me, who don't really like people!!!

Thanks UKM and Jim - that's pretty useful.
I use c2it also. They've been very reliable for me and the $10 fee is wonderful. It's the cheapest way I've found to send money home - directly in to a bank account and, if you don't bank with bank of america, directly out of your bank account too.

Highly recommended.
Tried to go to http://www.c2it.com this evening and it failed.

Did a google search for c2it and one of the links referenced the following

A CitiGroup spokesperson confirmed that the c2it online payment service will cease operations next month. c2it will close all customer accounts effective November 9, 2003, and will send remaining funds by check to customers. The site will be taken down on February 22, 2004.

As it says... "Another one bites the dust!"

Has anyone heard of or had any dealings with http://www.xe.com?

I'm considering using their service to transfer the a large proportion proceeds of the equity from our house sale to the US (from the UK) using their service...
