Sudden nostalgia pangs today when I saw a reference to Sooty in a British Paper.

Yes, I remember sooty and sweep and sue. Was it Matthew Corbett? then his son took over and my children watched it before we left the UK. It seems such a long time ago now.
I remember we always used to go past Matthew Corbetts when we used to go to the dentist at Frimley Green in Surrey.....the Sootymobile was always parked outside.
Sorry, useless trivia....it's just that you reminded me of something I'd forgotten about (Pain and nausia!) Thanks. -?
I don't think you can have a puppet called Sooty these days, not politically correct. wink
The flower pot men must be well out of bounds then.
I loved Sooty and Sweep.

I think every child growing up in the UK must have watched it.

No, they have them on in a new colour version. Still make that dopey sound though.

I always thought Sooty was a little bit, errm, effeminate.
Sue should have gone for Sweep, I think he would have given her a much more thorough seeing to.

You can't beat Sooty, Sweep and Soo.
I have a video of the Sooty show with Matthew Corbett which I brought over with me from the UK. I don't have any kids but I just like to watch it every now and again cos it cheers me up no end ! Ojne of those kids shows that works on 2 levels...has lots of sneaky adult humour in it as well. And I have a Sooty mug! (this is not just a "aren't I being witty and ironic" fashion statement either..I genuinely love the show!!! ) )
I do remember Sooty & co. Does anyone remember the Woodentops? Does anyone remember Captain Pugwash? Now I wonder why that was taken off TV.

I think that was removed because of.... ermmm... Seaman Stains and Roger the Cabin Boy...

Does anyone remember these:
Battle of the Planets
Monkey
Fingermouse
Bagpuss
Stop it and Tidy Up

Yep, I remember all of those... Loved Monkey, fantastic stuff - Pigsy was my favourite. But could never work out if the one on the horse was a boy or a girl... very confusing to a ten year old.. :-?

Edited to add:
Some of my favourites were:

Pipkins
Mumfey (the puppets not the cartoon)
Bod
and used to be spooked out by Chocky..
