New to the board today - I'm an English chap married to a yank living in southern NH.
There is a great British pub in Portmouth called the Coat of Arms and an ideal place for a get together....
Welcome to the boards! I live in MA, I am also from Kent, and also married to an American - where in NH do you live and where in Kent are you from? smile
Hi
I was born in Orpington Kent and now live in Fremont NH.
And yourself?
Hi Englishman, welcome, I used to live in NH until Sept. then we moved to Maine. We are about an hour from Portsmouth now. I know the Coat of Arms, though we don't get there very often.
Wheres my answer KentGirl......
Wendl - do you feel a pint at the coat coming on?
Pick a date and I'll let you know if we can make it. My hubby works long hours so he's not really up to too late a night, but I'm sure we could manage a few pints. lol
i am married to a yank, live in peabody mass, been here about a year, not met any english.
Brit here living in Acton ME nearest Brit may be a blip on the outer edges of my radar screen, thoug I am only 35 mins from Portsmouth . Anyone come up to Dover, or Rochester? roll grin
Have been to the Coat Of Arms once before. We plan to visit NH again this summer so maybe we could all meet for a few pints.
Hey Poncygit, we nearly bought a house in Acton, but are across the lake and over the hill on the far side of Shapleigh. We're only 15 mins from you. We moved here from Rochester.
You must really floor it to get to Portsmouth in 35 mins, you must be close to the turnpike.
Hi WendlYes, actually just this side of the
Lebanon line, We love these exotic sounding Maine names, Don't you? If I gun it I can connect Long swamp road to Somersworth and Dover in 20mins the rest at exit 9 on 16 is a breeze. Do you ever go downtown Sanford lol.. lets exchange notes!?
I know Long Swamp Rd. well. I often used to go down that road from Rochester to take our daughter to Berwick for her horse riding lessons.
Yes we are often in Sanford as our son has a friend who lives there, I can't say that I like the town much though.
There is a pub/grille called the LeBeau's downtown that we have been to a couple of times. It's small and cosy.
Everything from here is a 35 minute drive, not bad once you get used to it and learn to consolidate your trips, which was something I've always tried to do anyway.
There is so much building going on in this area, so many houses being built. We won't be small towns out in the boonies for too long I think.
You are all making me homesick! The first since I have been back here in Bristol, my husband's area.
My dad lives in New Castle right on the river in Portsmouth Harbor where I had since 1977 when I went back to UNH for my degree.
We were in Wolfeboro for a while as well as Portsmouth (8 of our married years) before selling up in 2000. Probably by fall we will be back to see my dad, etc for 3 weeks.
Can I join you all for that pint at the COA?
Cheers from Bristol...
Lauren

Just let us know when you're coming and we'll sort out that drink.
I love New Castle, my hubby was stationed at the Coast Guard base there when we first moved over here.
Wolfboro is pretty too.
I concur! I spent the 2000 summer up on Cotton mt.(North Wolfeboro) in an 1860s UN- winterized schoolhouse. Kind of sort of a pioneer or victorian house experience, wonderfully secluded though. We are now in a reconditioned 1857 schoolhouse in Acton. I guess we are cornering the market in pre-Civil War educational establishments! We love being between the mountains and the ocean. We were married at St Johns (Portmouth)and love the seacoast too.
Hi Wendl, Sanford is no architectural showcase but it has a "Shaws" where you can get Lion bars and Yorkies at under a dollar!!! yippee..and I agree about all the building. I know of Lebeaus' I have a friend who is into the karaeoke scene down there grin lol
P.S. see you for that pint (keep the custard pies under the table though, for now). razz .
