...but stick it in the "World of Sport" forum if you think it belongs there NR/mz!

I just watched the first bit of the opening ceremony -with the flag from the WTC and the national anthem.

It was nice, but I still felt very British and an outsider.

Then I went outside, and I heard cheering and various different parties playing the national anthem (several seconds behind each other eek ) and also the TV commentary coming from several directions, and I felt that it was nice to be in a country where people get so involved and care so much. I didn't think "bloody yanks making a song and dance about everything" as I might have done if I'd just been a tourist from the UK. I guess I'm here for good.

Any thoughts? And what's happening your way?
Our street is as dead as the grave - as usual. We are also watching the opening ceremonies (missed the Brits though). I am sure if I went outside I would hear nothing at all. I fervently hope that NBC gives fair time to showing competitors of nations other than the US though.
Well this is a good start. I thought I'd sit & watch the olympics, switched NBC on & there's Nascar driving on it. I thought they were going to devote coverage to the games. I hate American TV at times!

I caught a bit of the opening ceremony last night about 10 pm when I turned on the TV but 10 seconds of torch lighting was about all I could handle.

I don't like winter sports that much - it's too cold smile I did used to watch ""Ski Sunday" though - only for the music and David Vine's commentary as people bit it in the snow smile
I'm going to have to talk to the sheep & tell them to give birth some other time. I've just switched NBC on again & there's a flippin Basketball game on now evil

I watched the opening ceremony to see the Brits walk on, I was surprised when they came out with the G's (I thought they would be a U), but was quite pleased with the reception given to them. Didn't like Dubya's fave when Iran came on though.

His standing with the team when declaring the games open was a nice touch though.
