it depends exactly what you mean. How long have you been in the US, and under what circumstances are you applying for AOS?
Me, I came over here on a K1, when I arrived I went to the INS in Norfolk, Va and was given a 3 month EAD immediately. I also applied for another one when I filed my AOS after the wedding. When I went to get that (2 weeks after the 3 month one expired), there was no interview - I just had to show some ID to prove who I was, they took my photograph and a print of my right index finger. 5 minutes later I was walking out with the 12 month EAD.
FYI - 4 months later I had the 2 year GC
Hope this helps
ok then, it's easy. I'm assuming you applied for this EAD at the same time you filed for AOS, in which case you should have already have it. You've been here for 10 months, had to get married within 3, so you should have filed at least 7 months ago. If you asked for the EAD at the same time then they only have 90 days to reject your application for an EAD (provided it was filed properly and completely).
Basically, though, if you haven't been told anything to the contrary in advance, they've already decided to give you the EAD, all you should be doing is turning up to collect it, so don't be having any panic attacks when they call your name.
Just wait until you get your AOS interview (which you must attend with your spouse). Ours lasted about 10 minutes, my wife had armfuls of photo albums, wedding pictures, birthday cards, etc and the guy interviewing us said there was no point in him asking to see them as he could already see that we were prepared and he would just be wasting time looking at them. I spent most of the interview just signing various documents, then he stamped my passport with a temporary travel and employment stamp saying I should have the GC in 3 to 6 months. 7 weeks later it arrived. My total time from entering the US with the K1 to receiving the GC was just under 9 months.

Similar to Scouser seeing as we use the same local office and came in on the same visa. I didn't apply before the AOS though, but the EAD was cake - the hardest part was listening for my name because the guy spoke really quietly.
I had the same experience with the AOS meeting too, just a 5 minute conversation - all he asked to see was the wedding certificate. I actually had to wait from 5 months for my GC after the interview. Not sure what the hold up was.
the hold up was just regular processing time. Recently they've tried to speed things up a little, but I was still told there was a 3-6 months wait from AOS to getting the card, so when mine arrived I was a little surprised.
I didn't have to listen for my name, the guy was standing by the tray where you put the appointment letter. He looked at me and said that although the interview wasn't scheduled for another 20 minutes, he had nothing else to do and wanted to get on with it. We were actually back on the interstate at the time the interview was supposed to have started.
