Anyone with families interested in getting together with/without the kiddies? Anyone up for a Brit/American Superbowl party. I'd be happy to have a small gathering at my house in Millburn NJ
Hi Tracey, Where is Milburn? Is far from NYC?
Am I the only person in America who doesn't know when it is the Superbowl? (Although I do know it takes place on a Sunday!)
As we live so close to you I guess the answer will probably be a 'yes' - please say the date & time of your Superbowl party; my husband Pete is off on a business trip to London on Friday and I'll probably have to collect him from Newark airport when he returns.....
Sorry folks. I unfortunately have the unpleasant task of attending a funeral, so superbowl party is off. Maybe we could re-scheduele and hold a World Cup party.
Millburn is about a 40 minute train ride from NY Penn Station and I live a short walk from the station.
Dawn, I know we have been trying to get together for sometime now, but we keep missing each other. Feel free to email me on traceypirrie@hotmail.com
Hello all,
I live in NJ have done so for close to 3 years. I am not sure whereabouts you all are.
Zed
Hello Zed and welcome to Britnet!
Some of us had a get-together at a cabaret evening in NYC last Saturday with our spouses (Moi from Wanaque, Northern NJ near the NY border, Karyn from Fair Lawn -not far from the Meadowlands/Secaucus/Garden State Plaza Mall area, and I've been living in the USA for 21 months in the Short Hills-Millburn township - five minutes from where the Route 78 meets the Garden State Parkway, or 18 miles West of Manhatten. The nearby towns to where I live are Maplewood, Summit, Chatham & Madison.
Now where do you live? smile
Hello Dawn and thank you.
The get together sounds like fun.
I have heard of some of these places but as a non driver (can you believe such a thing exists here)I'm not sure exactly where each place is.
So are you enjoying it here?
Zed
Hi Zed.
Welcome to New Jersey. As Dawn and Maria said we recently had a get together.
I live in Fair Lawn which is a nice area, we are about 12 miles from New York. I have no clue where Nutley is but Ill ask my hubby, he seems to know just about everywhere.
smile
Hi Karyn,
Thanks for taking the time to say hi.
Cheers Zed
Hello everyone,
I have been away for the last few weeks, but with Spring approaching, it would be nice to plan some get togethers. As an American, married to a Scot and having lived in the UK for 8 years before moving back to the US last year, maybe I can be of some assistance to any of you US Newbies, or some who have been here but not quite settled in yet.
My husband and I live in Millburn NJ(the not so posh bit of the township that Dawn lives in)I can see how people may find it a bit difficult to make friends with the locals in the NY/NJ area,as they can be a bit full of themselves sometimes.
We have 2 children 6 and 9.
We would be up for either a family cookout(bar-b-q) or dinner/drinks either locally or in NYC.
Let me know what you guys think
tracey I would love to have a family get together. All of us in my home are British.
You let me know when and where and I will be there grin
p.s. I live on Long Island.
Where in the UK did you live?
I have 3 kids - 11,9 and 7
Hey Ben and all Britnets,
I lived in Glasgow for a year and then Chingford,in East London for 7 years.
As for the get together, there is a bank holiday, Memorial day at the end of May. If anyone is interested, I can host a cookout on the Saturday or Sunday. My garden is a bit of a mess and the house isn't that big, but I'm happy to share it with all that want to come.
I live in Millburn, NJ which is accessable by a train line from Penn Station, or about a 30 minute drive from mid-town. I live near the train station, so people could either take the train or drive and park at the station.
Let me know what everyone thinks, and I will firm up the arrangements.
Tracey
Tracey - how weird - I was going to post the very same thing and you beat me to it!
I'm up for it, and if you like we could have it round my place (whatever you prefer). I live two blocks from the next train station along from Millburn (2 mins on the train) and 5 mins from I-78. razz
Yes please, yes please, yes please I'd love to come along and bring my kids and hubbie. Let me know when and where. What dish etc we should bring.
Look forward to meeting you all.
Zed
Dawn,
Your place would suit fine, as we are having some work done on the garden and it may still be a bit of a mess at the end of May. Please give me a call and we can get together to make the plans over a beer/coffee at the local Charlie Browns or Starbucks one evening. I can help you with the arrangements, food, etc.
