Hi to you all!!!

I have just arrived in the US on an H-1B visa, and do not seem to be getting much help from my employer. So I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me what, if anything I need to do now? ( I havent done a thing except arrive!!)

Been reading your posts - hope to be part of them soon smile

Thanks

Hi there! Welcome to Britnet. We're supposed to be going offline for an upgrade any moment now, but I'm sure someone will be back soon with some useful advice!
I take it from your name you are in NY - is that Manhattan or somewhere else in NYstate?

What type of things do you want to know about. There are so many and too many to mention in one post. Have you come alone or do you have family with you?

Some of the first things I would do is find your way around your local area. Buy a detailed map and get going. Do you have insurance through your employer? If so, you will need to get yourself a primary carer (similar to a GP) sorted and inform your insurance company ASAP. You need this doing incase of an emergency.

If you have dependents with you, you may want to go and see the person at your work who is in charge of salaries. You can have adjustments made to the amount of tax you pay, if you have dependents. )

If you have any specific questions on where to find things in your area, let us know where you are (I'm on Long Island) and someone may live close by to help )
Are you asking what you should do in regard to the H1-B? Or just in general?

The H1-B will not require you to do anything more than inform the INS of your address if you move/settle in a new place.

I'm in NJ - where in NY are you?

Stel.
