FIFA Head Honcho Sepp Fatter says domestic leagues should be reduced to 16 clubs, to avoid player burnout. Likely to go before FIFA next year.
Can you honestly see the clubs going for this, with the associated loss in revenues ? If the league decided to ignore any rule, would that mean the England team would get suspended/banned (see Azerbaijan).
Surely won of the ways to avoid player burnout would be to stop pointless overseas tours that are nothing more than marketing exercises ?
mmm dont know about the other european leagues but i bet the english premier is dead set against it .
The loss of revenue for not playing in the premier /plus the loss of national players would be disasterous .see west ham ....
Sounds ominous. Remember the good old days when there were 24 teams? I think the idea is that the top leagues would only contain the very best players - which isnt entirely true seeing as many teams go down with the best players on their team - see Forest and Roy keane.
I dunno though - last years league said alot about the bad teams - the bottom two usually are way way off the pace. West Ham have been over rated for years - they have supposedly good players but they under perform all the time - reminds of the Liverpool Spice Boys.
Bladder is just being an idiot. I think it's poposturous that decisions like this can be made at the FIFA level, surely it should be down to the national football associations.
Next he'll be saying there should only be one domestic cup tournament per country.
