Any Wimbie fans out there????

I just watched Philipoussis crush Grosjean and Federer destroy Roddick. I was quite happy with the last result as all the American commentators were convinced Roddick was going to go all the way. My pick on the men's side is good old Philipoussis but I was truly impressed by Federer's domination and cool demeanour in his demolition of Andy Roddick.

I'm also looking forward to Serena and Venus' match tomorrow morning. Serena won easily last time and with Venus still not 100%, I think she's likely to repeat. I just love to hear how the US commentators try to explain away the William sisters' domination of the sport. I imagine them praying that Capriati or Davenport will end their reign and return tennis to the "good old days".
As much as their (Williams') over-confidence grates on my nerves, I still appreciate their talent and give them all the respect they deserve. I just don't think that comments from once excessively rude players, yes I'm talking about Mr. McEnroe, are necessary. Concerning Venus' injury, he sarcastically implied that should she beat Serena, the injury would be miraculously *cured* - as if she is putting this on for effect!

With no Brits left, who do you fancy in the finals? Is anyone still interested / watching? After all, it's been over sixty years since Fred Perry carried the crown...Sad isn't it?

I love watching tennis especially when it's Wimbledon. I've always been facinated even when I was a child.
i think Phillipousis (sp) should win - I think that it is his year to do it especially after knocking out Andre Agassi.
As for the ladies I would like to see Venus win this time.
Hi Bromelygirl, I've always been a Wimbledon fan too. smile I have yet to get there but I hope to get tickets to next years.

I think Philippousis should really win as he's come a long way to get back to this premier level. He just needs to serve well and stick those volleys and he'll have a good chance. Federer was amazing too. If he plays like he did against Roddick, Mark'll have his work cut out for him. Still think he can do it. smile

Hi UK,

I'm going to be watching with anticpation on Sunday to see if Mark can do it. I think he will but Federer was playing so well against Roddick. I do think that Mark wants it more and that in the end that will make the difference and he will win through.

I would love to get tickets and go there one day. Do you know how you go about getting tickets?

Watching tennis takes up a lot of my viewing time expecially when its wimbledon .
I had the fortune when i lived in putney of not being far from the england lawn tennis club and vertured a visit there many a time to see some of the great masters of the sport Newcombe , Laver ,and Borg *he was just becoming a super star when i was getting ready to depart to US * one of my favourite tennis stars and who i deeply regret never having seen live .

On the womens side i remember some great games by Margaret Court , Chris evert and Billy JEAN king , missing from this list is the greatest of all lady tennis player Martina Mavratilova .

As for the williams sisters good luck on thier continuing dominance of the woems singles and all negative talk is just soar grapes .

One good thing on the womens side is it looks like we have seen the last of that spoilt overrated , unsporting martina hingis ....

My all time fave mens player was the original bad boy Ille Nastasse, not so foul mouthed as McEnroe, as most of his tantrums were humorous.

My strongest memory was 1977, the Silver Jubillee year when Virginia Wade and Bjorn Borg were champions. I was 8 months pregnant with my first baby and on bed rest so watching Wimbledon was all the excitement I was allowed. It was also very hot that summer and I was very uncomfortable!
Ille Natasse was as you say hillarious at times and always a charater .

His kind come along once in a lifetime that give you good humour and a scense of fun whiole performing at a very high level of professonalism

Macinroe Broke all the rules (walking of the court etc ) and got away with it because of his sheer talent and tenacity and was inspite of his childlike tantrums a crowd favourite .

No other player pushed the bounderies of exceptable behaviour as far as *the brat from UYC * did until MArtina Hingis came along *she walked of the court to* but unfortunatly she does,nt have the charater and attraction as macinroe did and there fore will always be considered as a *spoilt baby *

Thanks UK, 'm determined to go one day smile
Did you watch the womens or should I say the Williams final today? Venus had me thinking at first that she might actually do it but of course Serena won in the end.
I really hope Mark Phillipousis win tomorrow - can't wait to watch it - hope he's getting a good night's sleep. wink

I think Serena deserved it and at least they've won it twice each!

Well, Federer deserved it. Mark tried but Roger was playing in some other stratosphere. Ah well, better luck next time.
