...anyone else watching? On FSW, live from Las Vegas. Something to do on a wet, hot, humid 4th of July in Texas
I fell asleep on the couch last night and heard Sid Waddell's commentary on the TV.....
very surreal.
Need to know- why is it called an "ocky",not sure if thats the right spelling.

Getting exciting now, about to watch Phil "the power" Taylor against Alan "Iceman" Warriner. Hope Phil wins as I dont like Iceman.

I think it's oche -dunno where it came from, though!

...just looked it up in the OED, that's the right spelling, origin is unknown.

Thank you Monster for the correct spelling, I suppose this will just become one of lifes mysteries, unless a darts expert is lurking somewhere on the board.

Well its almost time for the semi finals, I've got this far and now have to watch until Sundays finals. I'm ready for my next one hundred and eighttttttty fix roll
Well I used to play a lot and wasn't bad, but I still can't tell you where the term came from smile
....I have excellent mental arithmetic skills and people tend to assume it's because I have a maths degree, but actually it's from playing darts where you need to score a throw, subtract it fom the total and work out the best finish before the next player is on the oche!
...and thats why I am no good at darts, I have no mathamatical skills, if I run out of fingers than I cant do it lol

Well just to keep you updated tomorrows final is between John Part, a Canadian who just beat Phil Taylor (excellent game) and Peter Manley from England.

Okay my sad Thursday to Sunday dart watching is over, Peter Manley, the underdog won the championship, and a very good final it was too. Not having watched darts for over 14 years I now know who is who, that Eric Bristow is still an arrogant SOB, that Leighton Rees is no longer with us, not sure what has happened to Jockey Wilson, John Lowe or Bobby George but I really got into the spirit of it.

Help needed in Texas regards...
I watched it all week. Funniest moment is when Sid Waddell said the temperature in Las Vegas is treble twenty, twenty, double top degrees fahrenheit.
A colleague of mine from work is in Vegas on Vac, and we were checking the Desert Classic web site before he went. All it cost to enter was $95, and in the qualifying rounds you might have drawn Eric Bristow, John Lowe, Keith Deller, Ritchie Burnett and a whole gaggle of other famous players. I reckon it would be worth $95 for a game against one of those guys, and just take the mick
