My passport expires in June and as most countries require one to have at least six months duration on their passports before you can enter I really should get my act together and apply for a new British Passport real soon.

I know that you can download the application form and send it with ones current passport to the British Embassy in Washington DC - but do you have to do anything about getting another visa stamp added to the new passport? Or do you just travel with your old passport as well as the new one? Do I need to notify the INS of a new British passport number? I have an L2 visa.

I'm sure someone here will know!
Dawn, I'm pretty sure you don't have to contact the INS. You just attach the old passport to your new one. My husband did that for a while for the same reason. They always return the old passport in any case.
Hope your passport pictures come out better than the mugshot I had taken today for my new greencard! Wish the one taken 10 years ago still looked remotely like me sad

Dawn I didn't have to contact the INS when I renewed my passport. The British Embassy returned my old one along with my new one. I did take my old one with me last year when I went home, just in case they needed to see the stamp. They didn't ask for it though when I came back. Makes me cringe looking at the photo's looks like I've got someone elses passport. Why do they have to make like you should be on America's most wanted. mad
