I couldn't find another thread on this, so I hope it's not a repeat!
Hubby and I watched "I am Sam" last night. What a great movie. Sean Penn's acting was superb as a retarded man (though I wish they hadn't dressed quite so much like Rainman). What a tearjerker though....hubby & I went through a box of Kleenex between the two of us lol
Well worth watching!

Its on my ..to see list ...
If its a real tear jerker my wife will move it up the "to see list " pretty quickly .
I saw it a while back and it is very good. I don't follow films or actors much so I didn't even realise it was Sean Penn until the end credits......the acting was superb on his part.
Another good film you might want to look at that's kind of similar and has funny bits in as well as teary bits is "the other sister"....look it up on IMDB or something because if you enjoyed "I Am Sam" then you'll probably like it too.
I quite liked "I am Sam" too.
Have not seen "The Other Sister" but the cast was fairly impressive. Will put it on the old Netflix list sometime.
I loved this film too, the little girl is a real cutie, not the usual obnoxious American child actor. Sean Penn is brilliant, I do hope his acting career hasn't ended due to his opposition to the Iraq war.
It has been a while since I posted, and now I have messed it up.
Can't these posts be deleted?

I am Sam is a great film – as is the soundtrack which is a bunch of well-known bands doing Beatles covers. Penn is a fantastic actor and never fails to impress me. I don’t think his politics will really effect him (it’s hardly been a secret) – and I think politicos who don’t share his views can see he is a terrific actor and that his career wont change at all – I may think that some of the things that he and people like Tim Robbins/Susan Sarandon does is stupid or immoral but that has absolutely zero to do with a film they appear in. For example one of my favorite films is Robbins’ Cradle Will Rock – a great story about the a writer trying to get his socialist utopia play to go public during the McArthy Hollywood era. The film is awesome, brilliantly acted (it does have John Torturro in it – one of the bets actors around) and even if the story is completely biased it is fantastic.
not wanting to hijack another thread, but immoral??
Sure - Robbins and Sarandon are very quick to label people racist – particularly Ashcroft and Rumsfeld. I don’t think their methods are particularly moral – complaining about free speech live on national tv and comparing yourselves to Rosa Parks is a bit much for me.
why did he call them rascists?
Dunno. In my opinion probably because its easy to call someone racist and difficult to prove you arent.

it is a stigma that kinda hangs around
