My daughter is 6 months old, born in USA to American mother.
Normally when the mother and I (I'm a permanent res alien) visit Canada, I need my green card & passport, she just needs her USA drivers licence. Any ideas what we'll need for the ankle-biter - is her birth certificate good enough, or does she really need a passport just to visit Canada and get back in the US again?
I've looked at the INS & Border patrol sites, but neither are very informative when it comes to such young children.
???

If she is an American citizen (which I understand she is) she will just need proof of citizenship to re-enter the states from any country in the western hemisphere(20 deg west to 160 deg east). A birth certificate counts as proof of nationality.

To enter Canada you will need to have your usual paperwork along with proof that she is your child, there's that birth certificate again. Incidentally if, when she's a bit older and less fragile, a friend or relative wants to take her over the border they will need a letter of permission signed by you.
Thanks! Powerful piece of paper, that Birth Certificate.
