Not a recipe but food related.....
I was wandering around Safeway on Saturday and was delighted to come across Safeway's own brand of what we would all know as "Sugar Puffs". There was no Honey Monster on the packet of course but the taste test proved that they were pretty close to the original cereal.
Now if I could just find some delicious "Shreddies", instead of that disgusting "Chex Mix" cack.....
Our supermarket has organic Weetabix - haven't done the taste test yet tho'. The other day my son was estatic after finding Ricicles bless 'im! wink

Trader Joe's has canadian Weetabix which are half the price of Safeways !
I think $2.00 for 24 !
They don't seem as good to me but my son hasn't complained so I'm in heaven !

I can get weetabix at my local health food store, along with the vegemite and some Twinings teas!
The weetabix tastes just like at home! razz
If anyone knows where I can get my hands on Weetabix (or US equivalent) in the Chicago area, please let me know.
I would kill for the stuff right now.
Cheers

Well, I can point you in the right direction if you fancy a 5 hour drive Detroit way!
I just had a good friend mail me some from Pittsburgh.
Made for an excellent Sunday lunch (hey, I'm single and can do whatever I like!!).
If you know of anywhere within 30 miles of Chicago, let me know, that or I'll just try the mail order method. Haven't tried that yet. Any tips/pointers?

My local Kroger and Albertsons carry Weetabix ! (yum) Not sure if those shops are nationwide or not smile
The K cornflakes here DO not taste anything like ours back home sad
I want Ready Brek - have found it in one little British Market place, for $7 for the smallest box you have ever seen !!! mad

well, they're quite light, so perhaps I could mail you two at a time, letter post?
BTW, Sammy, you've just answered a question of mine -I wondered if Kroger were nationwide. We have them in Michigan -sadly only one of the 5 or so in AA stocks Weetabix. Don't have the other one though.
I can also get them at Meijer.
We can get weetabix at our local stop and shop. We have also had coupons for them here too and with SS doing double coupons it brings a 24pack down to under $2.
King Kullen sell weetabix and Wauldbaums too. It's the one cereal we can get. Haven't seen Readybrek without breaking the bank! I was wondering if any of the baby cereals might be similar but haven't tried them.
We use the Quaker 'sugar puffs'. They come in a packet rather than a box and are pretty much the same as back home (my mum can't tell the difference).
We also love Alpen but a little box costs a fortune. Tried other types but they aren't the same as the original.
My kids have enjoyed the organic cereals you can get in Trader Joes and SS. A couple of them don't cost any more than the Kellogs/Post brands.
Hi azeemm1, There is a small shop that imports and sells english food not far from you. It is called British Accents. The address is 116 Old Mchenry Road. Long Grove.
The telephone is 847/913-0855. I think they deliver not sure though. The village that it is in is beautiful. They have different stores from different countries. A bit pricey though. When we visited we were like little kids in a sweet shop, grabbing everything!!! Hope this helps. If you find anywhere else I would love to know. grin

I cant stand ReadyBrek, but just a suggestion... to me it looks just like pulverised oatmeal.. Could you maybe take the Quaker instant oatmeal, and just run the dry oats through the blender? I think that would be about the same texture as Ready Brek?
It may be old news,
but Shaws of Maine stocks Yorkies, Club biccies, Lion bar, munchies , Galaxy , Jacobs and more in the Irish / internation section all at supa mkt prices EG. yORKIES @89CENTS ..gotta have um!

Hi monster, yes Krogers are, if not, nationwide, all over the east. My son is working his way through college at one of the Krogers in AA. Most of my family lives there. Any chance you work at the university...er I mean uni?

Thanks for all the info. I put the address in on Yahoo and it spat out a number of different places that were similar (see bottom). Anyway, thanks for the pointers, I know I'm going on an expedition this weekend for some Weetabix.
I might be some time.
