Anyone else watch this on BBC America? I really enjoyed it. The production had a real style all of its own, very well acted and I loved the music.
"A huge success in the UK, even before filming began, Tipping the Velvet was dubbed controversial for its honest and up-front approach to lesbianism."

Yes, I enjoyed it, if you missed it, well, its the BBC, it will be repeated, repeated, repeated grin
I think I saw French and Saunders parodying this when I was back in the UK at Christmas.
I watched it too and did'nt really like it, not because it was about lesbians, I thought the story was OTT and far fetched and the camera work made it almost farsical at times.
I thought the way it did the love scenes was a cop out, either show it properly or just skip it altoghter.
Sorry this one was just not for me !

I think what you disliked was part of what I liked so much, it had a style all of its own. I loved the way scenes ended with the keyhole/telescope view, reminding us it was very much a "story" as opposed to being a true life drama.
I wasn't very keen on the Music Hall songs though, but loved the background music.

What I liked about the love scenes was that they didn't seem to have just been included for a bit of spice. Some scenes were very passionate, some tender and some down right lusty with dildo thrown in for good measure!! (not sure if you can say dildo on here)
However, according to the website this version was heavily cut down from its original UK edition which ran for 3 hours 15 mins. Whats the betting that lots of the sex was snipped, probably deemed too much for an American audience
