Looks like funding for our Green cards is being withdrawn by my husbands company!
Anyone know how much green cards cost????? (Ameriscot???)
NFP ???
Can they do that?? Isn't your husband's being here dependent on getting a green card? Surely they would not just ditch the process and leave you in the lurch? there must be someone you can get advice from.
Aren't Ben and Phil paying for their own greencards?
Maybe you should PM her. She might not want to post how much it is in the open forum.
The cost of the actual green card process isn't that much - around $500? You would still need the employer to file the petition but there's no reason why you can't reimburse the costs of this yourself.

You are right Jim. gold star
NFP, we are having to pay for our own GC too because hubby's employer can't justify the expense. so far we have forked out $1,800. We were told by friends in Florida who paid for their own too (you really should still use a lawyer at some stage) that it is generally no more than $5,000. this includes filing fees and medicals. I think the medicals alone are over $100 per person and then hubby and you may have to have some shots done which you have to pay for too if you aren't careful. If you know what you need before you go for your medicals, you may be able to get your insurance company to pay for what you need. Then if you don't file for an adjustment of status (I think that is what it is) you have to fly back to the UK. But doing an adjustment of status takes a little longer and can cost a little more.
ameriscot, I think you may find that $500 is per person, not for the whole family.
If you need any other info. NFP, just give me a PM and I will try and answer your questions
Thanks for all your comments so far.
I should have said that it appears that it is the Spouse/dependents they dont want to pay for any more. Hubby I believe will be covered. But H1B process will still have to be renewed for Jan 2005 (it took 6 months last time but friends of ours are now quoted 8 months wait)...so we'd have to file for renewal in Jan 2004 to ensure we get an extension starting Jan 2005 (the year that our passports run out!!!)....

My hubbies comp paid for our GC's, Hubby, me and daughter. The cost total to the company from the lawyer the company hired to do this was $6400.00 including change of status and filing fees, but not including the shots and the medicals and photo's, these we paid for. Talking about shots, when you get to the TB testing stage if you already had a TB vaccination in the UK then go straight onto the xrays as you will get a reaction to the TB test for certain and have to have the xrays anyways.
a suggestion for your TB Test/Xrays
The local Health Dept. paid for Manc's X-rays once it was reported that his test came back positive. Of course, it was explained to them that it's typical for a British person's to come back that way, but they for sure don't want TB in thier county so they paid for the x-rays to be done at the hospital. It's worth a try! Can save you some money. (He also got the test done at the health dept. and it wasn't TOO pricey)
the last three British people where I work including myself have come back negative for the TB test they require before starting ???
Makes me wonder whether the BCGs aren't very effective or their tests here aren't accurate roll
Either way at least I didn't have to go through all the X-ray malarky smile
