I've just joined http//www.netflix.com on a free two week trial and have been having great fun choosing movies/tv series to rent.

We are so out in the sticks that there is nowhere convenient to rent DVDs from so this might work well for us.

I've found some interesting stuff to rent under the foreign section (no Moo, nothing rude). Including the League of Gentlemen which I love.

I think JohnA and Pilgrim use NetFlix.
We use Netflix too ... smile
Didn't I head somewhere that Blockbuster were going to start their own video mail service too? I like the idea NetFlix but I never rent $20 worth of movies every month anyway. Additionally I get free BB coupons every month

I've been with Netflix about two years now. I find it better than the video rental store but then I do watch a lot of movies each week.

The best part is not having to pay late fees and keeping the titles as long as I want. Sometimes it is annoying when you get a disc and it's a bit scratched or worse - broken - but this is very rare and they always send out a new one when you report it online.

At first, I had to return my discs in the mail to San Diego but then they had a local centre at Tacoma and now my local centre is Salem, just up the road, so I get discs sent out even quicker than before.

Great service and well worth $19.95 a month to me - and yeah, I think John has Netflix too.
Hey Deborah - we (my girlfriend and I) love the League of Gentlemen too!! I didn't think there were others on here into it. We've just finished watching the third series on BBC Canada. A lot of the minor characters in the first and second series are suddenly the lead characters in the third. It gets pretty surreal. I think the live video is brilliant too. They do lots of other sketches not dressed up at all which shows how flexible they are. Who's your favourite character?

Lee, League of Gentlemen is Brilliant! I think its only the first series I have seen. It was on the Comedy Channel a couple of years back and then just disappeared. Maybe it was a bit much for the Americans lol

There are so many great characters in it, of course I love Tubbs, I like the taxi driver -Pauline I think is his/her name. I think my absolute favorite is that dreadful woman who does the training at the job center is her name Pam, can't remember but she is great, she's the one who is obssessed with pens.

The funniest thing was that when they showed it here they blocked out Tubbs' boobies when she was whipping them out lol lol only in America would they feel the need to shelter the audience from seeing pretend *****!

My first films just arrived from Netflixs, goodie, goodie, good and hoorah!

Importance of being Earnest (A haaandbag!)
Monsters Inc
Lovely and Amazing (with Brenda Blethyn one of my favorite actors.)
Hey, I adore the League of Gentlemen too! So does Pete and our 18 year old daughter.

I have DVDs of the Series 1 & 2, a Christmas Special and the Live at Drury Lane one. I didn't know they'd done Series 3, great news! God knows if it will be on BBC America (I'm soooo jealous of all the good TV you get in Canada) but if not I guess I'll get the DVD as soon as comes out in the UK.

Ooooh, how can you choose a favourite character, there are so many good ones, it's like a box of Thornton's chocs! I have to say I love Pauline from the Jobcentre (I used to work at the UBO but assessing claims and putting people on Restart courses!).

But I think that poor downtrodden Tubbs is my favourite - that was a weird scene with her suckling the piglet though!!!

"What's all this, this is a local shop for local people, we'll have no trouble here!".

And the toad-breeding couple with their odd twin daughters.....the cleaning woman and the transvestite taxi driver.

Didn't like Papa Lazarous so much.

Comedy here in the US just doesn't cut it - they just don't or are too scared to do any off the wall stuff as they're obsessed with ratings and political correctness.
Ha ha!

Two minds thinking alike! You beat me to it though Deborah, I was interrupted by a phone call!

Pete came back from London with a DVD of the film "Kes". We had to read the book (A Kestrel for a Knave" about a Northern boy who had a poor start in life, but came to train and own his own kestrel) when I was at Junior school, and afterwards we saw the film at school. I reckon that it must have been compulsory for all British schoolkids in the very early 70's!

I haven't seen it yet, might catch up over the weekend.
I really like (I can't remember his name) the ageing rock fan who still dresses from the '70s. The one who likes Creme Brule (the very name makes me LOL). I used to be a music journalist and a radio DJ , so I've met so many people like him.

I also think the character of the German pervert is well creepy. Pauline is marvellous, I like her pen fetish. There are so many truly awful characters it's difficult to know where to begin. They've also certainly revived the grand British tradition of men dressing up as women haven't they?

I'm amazed how clever those guys are to play ALL those characters. Great to find some kindred spirits.

wink
I have not seen "League of Gentlemen" but it sounds great. Will have to track that down now.
"LoG" is the nuts. I suggest everyone and their mate rent it. lol
Also, If none of you have heard it, the BBC tape of the original radio 4 series "On The Town", by the League of Gentlemen is very funny and introduces many of the characters who are in the TV series.
Jim - is this available to buy?

Where can one get it from? The UK or here?

Dawn
I'll definitely try to track 'On The Town' down. The BBC shop (UK) would probably be a good place to start Dawn. I also know a London record shop that is kind enough to knock off the 17% VAT before sending something out to you!!!!
