Yanks are always amazed when I tell them that my family drank 10-20 cups a tea a day in England. It seemed someone was always saying "who's turn to put the kettle on?", and of course, if the rent man, window cleaner or anyone for that matter showed up, the kettle went on.

Was this just a local thing for me or did you drink that much?

Also, I think because I drank that much hot tea is why I can't stand ice tea - ugh, tastes just like a cuppa gone cold mad

I presume you mean between you and not each here Elaine?

I had my first 'iced tea' yesterday. Took a bit of getting used to. Actually it wasn't that bad but I think I'll go with the usual Diet Coke next time...

No, I mean each person.

My first instinct when drinking iced tea is to chuck it out and put the kettle on the boil too.

I drink about six or seven mugs of tea some days. I don't know about twenty.
it was actually on the news here the other day that 4/5 cups of tea is a cancer deterent.
Well, my nannan and grandad go through at least a 2lb bag of sugar a week, on just their cups of tea - but by eck do they make a good un !!!!
Well in Eastenders the other week in the corner shop they had American iced tea on the shelf,so I guess they sell it over there now roll
I can go through three or four pots of coffee a day without any difficulty, it's what you're used to.

Iced tea tastes like mas foochy to me but the missus loves it roll
My folks bought me a kettle and a teapot yesterday - they were a bit disappointed I didn't already have them and couldn't face two weeks of using the microwave smile
I very rarely drink hot tea these days, but drink tons of iced tea & coffee in the summer.

I do remember the first time I ever tasted iced tea though, we were in Saudi & had to make our own wine. We visited some friends & I thought their wine was a funny colour 'til I tasted it & almost spit it out. Eeeew!!!! cold tea.

It took a while but now I love it.

I put boiling water on iced tea mix(Liptons or whatever) and it tastes great. You should try it. smile
I drink about 3 or 4 mugs a day during the week, maybe a few more than that on Saturdays and Sundays. I haven't found a brand of tea bag here that is strong enough for my tastes, so relatives in England send me TyPhoo bags.
I'm a caffiene junkie actually and drink mountains of coffee. In the last place I lived in the UK the kettle was never ever off - but I havent had a single cup-o-tea since I've been here. Maybe I should whip out the tea bags?

You know Elaine you just touched on something that brought back a wee memory, something I could say I miss about England, our living room was never empty untill it was time for my dad to come home from work, and when my mom and I came home from grocery shopping, she would say "put the kettle on love and we'll have a nice cuppa tea "
Oh dear, where have all the flowers gone
long time passing..............june
