British Expatriate Network

Hi, this is my first time here! My Fiancée is American, I am British. We are both studying her in the UK at the moment, but plan to move to the states when we graduate. We are getting married next year, and we are moving the year after. What difficulties can we expect to face? How easy is it to get a green card, work permit, residency etc? Any advice would be most appreciated.

I found it relatively easy to do all that, although my route was a little different to yours. Just be prepared for a lot of form filling, lots of cheque writing for each of the main forms you submit and a bit of waiting while stuff gets processed. It's not a bad system - it's just overwhelmed so things take time.

Personally, I found it a breeze so far compared with what I was expecting/dreading.
