I have dual citizenship and my British passport expired in November 2000. I have a current US passport. My children (born here, American father) were on my old British passport, but also have their own American ones.

My questions are Should I get them UK passports? Should I get a new one for myself? Will it make any difference to my travelling to the UK if I go solely on the US passport and the children on theirs? Will my having or not having a British passport affect my status if I were to return to the UK to live at some point?

I think I know the answers but I would really appreciate input from anyone else here with further thoughts, suggestions, comments, resources I can look into, etc.

thank you all
Happy New Year Jan

You can renew your passport at the British Embassy in Washington via post with forms from their website

For simplicity it would probably be best if you also get your children British passports before you return to reside in the UK, otherwise they may need visas in their US passports to be allowed entry into the UK. However just visiting would probably be OK - but check with the consulate covering Massachusetts

Just about get both US and UK passports for my daughter, born at Thanksgiving.

Thank you Paul. I had not seen that site before. Congrats on the birth of your daughter too!
