Hi

I'm an IT consultant, and despite 20 years experience I've been trying without success to get job in the US with H1 visa sponsorship for the last 2 years. The irony is that I actually got a valid H1 granted and my passport stamped about thirty seconds before the US tech economy crashed. The company I was to join decided they didn't want any overseas workers and that was that.

My wife and I are still keen to come to the US though, and have decided to look at other avenues, perhaps starting up a business doing something completely removed from IT, maybe somewhere like Florida.

Does anyone out there know how difficult this is, what the INS issues are, and even how much one would have to invest to be allowed to stay in the US??

(Oh, and if anyone requires an experienced IT guy and are in a position to sponsor, it would be great to hear from you too!)
I think you need a million dollar investment and a commitment to hire a certain number of non-family members to work for you.

You'll find a quick run down of all the visa categories and the criteria on the visa pages of the London Embassy website
