Just out of interest, what food can't you import? I know for example you can't bring your sarnies in you had for the flight, but what else??
It's on the same site. You definitely can't bring fresh fruit or meat. The problem is that the people at the airport don't know either and have to look it up. When there was all that fuss about Cadbury's Dairy Milk Choc during the foot-and-mouth disease scare, I phoned USDA up on their free help line and was told you can bring most types of cheese, it just needs to be vaccuum wrapped. Ditto preserved meats and fish. I was quite surprised by the number of things she said were OK.
Last time we came in, the woman didn't know what golden syrup was and had to go off and look it up roll
Don't get Lisa going on this one! Fancy them not knowing if a tin of Heinz baked beans was illegal!!
I got a leaflet given to me on one of my return trips here by an airport official. I can't recall where I put it now but you can import most things apart from fresh meat and fish, some cheeses, seeds, fresh herbs and plants. That's about it. Tea bags are definitely OK as is chocolate and any processed food as long as the wrapping is not tampered with.

At Christmas, we filled one small suitcase with baked beans. We told them, they x-rayed it, they looked bemused, they opened it up and they said "This suitcase is full of baked beans". What can I say?
That reminds me when we crossed the border from Canada into the US. The customs guy asked me 'where have you come from?' lol
