I have to renew my J1 visa in my passport, the current one runs out in 2 weeks.
I have my approval for 1 years extension from my employer.
Does anyone know the best way of going about this, do I have to send my passport back to the UK, I have heard rumours that I can't renew a J visa in the US.
Any help appreciated smile

How long have you had it for so far? And what category do you fall under? Intern? Student?

I have had it for 2 years so far and have the extension for an extra year approved so am OK as long as I don't leave the country and want to get back in. But I do this summer.
I am come under the catagory Research Scholar.
That title makes even me sound clever lol

I was under the impression that you could renew over here, or by mail. When I got my J1 through CIEE, they gave me forms that I could use for renewal (not possible as I had already got the max. 18 months).

Why don't you call the British embasssy people in New York? I know they wouldn't be the ones to sign off on it, but they're bound to know and when I've called them in the past, they've been really helpful and friendly.

Sorry, but don't know too much about your type of visa...
