Watched it last night and thought it was rather run of the mill stereotyping and definitely over rated.

Yes, I saw it getting on for a year ago at the local cinema. I didn't know what all the fuss was about either. I'd give it 5 out of 10. grin
Hmmm. This is the film my American friends are currently talking about and rating highly. Was planning to rent it in the near future. Is it reminiscent of American sitcoms, humourwise? What is it that makes it not so good, yet critically acclaimed?
Loved it!!
Saw it just before Xmas. Loved it.
Well, I almost rented My Big Fat Greek Wedding tonight but Blockbuster was out of it. I opted for Gosford Park instead. Will watch it tomorrow as it's a bit late now.

Do some of you find that films Americans rave about aren't quite up to much in your opinion?
Gosford Park - Loved it!

Depends on the ethnic background of the subject matter, more people with Greek ancestors in U.S. than are in U.K. Myself thought Greek Wedding daft, but I loved Gos.Park, but of course I'm Brit.

The movie was very cliched. It's not a terrible movie. You can sit and watch without feeling like you've just wasted an hour or so. I much preferred About A Boy.

I though BFGW was excellent. We saw it before I became overhyped so maybe you were expecting it to be better that it actually was because everyone was raving about it.

Gosford Park was great too but it seems like a lot of Americans (including my wife) couldn't follow it because it was hard to understand the accents. Maybe watching it with the subtitles on would be better?!!

I loved 'About a Boy' too particularly '..Are you the kid throwing bloody great loaves of bread at the ducks...?'.
G-Park - what a load of poncy arthouse crap. It's way long and nothing really happens. Like Ingmar Bergman with less jokes.

Ditto.

Am I the only one who didn't find the references to Windex at all funny. The audience at the movies were helpless with laughter during those moments, whereas I just look around in amazement. Is there a different conotation that I am unaware of?
Definately prefer About a Boy.

I watched it over the weekend. I was expecting a lot and for the first half was quite disappointed. I did find the second half a lot funnier though, and I think it redeemed itself. I remember being desparate to see it at the cinema and I'm somewhat grateful I waited to rent it.

Overall Worth seeing. I grew up around a lot of Greek Cypriots and a lot of it hit home.
Goodness me they have turned BFGW into a sitcom....yuck! It was on last night could only stand a few minutes of it. They had the same actors albeit apart from the husband.
