What did you file for? Marriage-based or employment-based?

I think it is a veritable lottery, and depends which INS clerks desk you end up on. Some obviously have piles of files to go through much larger than the next clerk.
My friend is on his third Work Authorisation card while I had my passport stamped within 10 months of getting my first one.

For petitions, they tend to work on one class for several weeks, then move onto another class. If you get in just as they are starting to work on your class, it should be approved fairly quickly. On the other hand, if you send yours in just after they've finished a run, you could wait several months before they start processing them again. How long they spend on each petition class is a political decision from Washington.

Each INS field office has their own procedures, so some places might do work authorizations in a day, and other may take up to six months. It's not quite a lottery - you just have to refer to your own field office and not go by someone's experience elsewhere.

count yourself lucky ours was at Nasbraska to and our count was 196days evil
but it was worth the wait
