Why are we having pancakes tomorrow? I thought Shrove Tuesday was March 4th.
OH MY GOD - have I made a major booboo ?
Everyone, I'm so sorry - I feel like I've only had 3 hours sleep since a week last Friday.
sorry everyone - just ignore me
The baby's made me lose my marbles, as well as stealing all my immune system, dammit !! eek
I always thought pancake day was in February, too, Nicky Nak. I will go onto the web and have a look.
Even if it isn't tomorrow, you can still enjoy your pancakes razz
Beng's right Nicky, it is March 4th this year. I should have realised myself because Easter is later this year. roll
Isn't Pancake Day/Shrove Tuesday always 40 days before Easter, and immediately before the commencement of Lent? (Ash Wednesday is the following day). The idea is to fill yourself up as during Lent you are supposed to deprive yourself of goodies eg. chocolate etc!
Easter is very late this year (Easter Sunday is on 20th April) and it's connected with the lunar cycle.
Maybe you have last years calendar, I seem to remember Shrove Tuesday fell on the same day as Lincoln's Birthday - which is this Wednesday.
Don't worry about it Nicky_nak - it's very easy to lose track of the old traditions over here when you don't have constant reminders around you.
I thought you could eat pancakes when you fancid them ..at least thats what i do .

don't be such a grumpy old party pooper
p.s. Nicky_nak, when the day arrives, we like to eat savoury ones -usually filled with either salmon and mushroom sauce, a bologneise variation, or tuna and cheese. Then we have a sweet one for pudding with butter, sugar, orange and lemon juice. Yum.
Best bit, though, is standing round watching Beest toss! The children enjoy seeing how high he can get it. grin
