I would LOVE to be able to surprise my british husband with some curry chicken, or balti. But really don't know the first thing about it , or what goes in it or how to cook it......HELP ???
Hi terme22!

Welcome to Britnet. Where are you in the States? You can get cook-in curry/balti sauces from the supermarket depending where you live. That would be a good start!

There's a whole bunch of good Indian restaurants in Mountain View, Sue's is good though:

Sue's Indian Cuisine
Tele: 969-1112 -- 216 Castro St., Mountain View, CA 94041. Lunch and dinner. Menu samples: Shrimp biriani and spicy vindaloo. Vegetarian and tandoori.

Swagat Indian Cuisine
Tele: 948-7727-- 2700 W. El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA 94040. So. Northern Indian Cuisine.

Did you know that vindaloo is really derived from a Portugese dish...

Chicken Bhuna... i make this alot and it's nice!

2 pounds boneless chicken
2 medium onions
.25 litre veg oil
2 inch cube ginger
6 cloves garlic (i use more)
1 t chilli powder
.5 t turmeric
1.5 t salt
1 small tin tomatoes
2 black cardamoms
2 sticks cinnamon
1 t cumin (i use more)
1.5 t tomato puree
3 fresh green chillies
half a bunch fresh coriander

Chop onions finely and add to saucepan with the oil.. fry till lightly brown. Peel & dice ginger & garlic and add to onions. Cook at medium heat... if it sticks, add a bit of water. When onions are brown, add chilli powder, turmeric, salt, tomatoes, cardamoms (i usually pull these apart and empty the seeds into the sauce), cinnamon, cumin & tomato puree. Cook until mixture is fully mashed. If necessary, add a bit of water. Once the sauce is dark brown, add the chicken and stir till chicken is cooked. Chop up the coriander and add to the mixture.

This recipe came from my pal's Indian cookery class.
