A friend of mine has told me about Brit Meet-up. This is not a forum, not a message board or chat group. What the purposes is British E-pats meet one evening a month, this is a global concept. You go to the website, sign-up for your town, etc. If they have a meet in your town, you sign-up for it. There is a list of topics for discussion for that meeting. You check which topics you would like to discuss. You also vote on a place to meet. No other involvement or commitment. I was surprized to find my town in Tenneesse on the list for a meeting place. It is http//brit.meetup.com/hq the concept of our group is completely different. The meet-up is once a month and global.

Hi Welshrain, I was hoping to get a meet-up here in Santabarbara ca. just can't get enough people together though, not many Brits here if any, kinda dissapointing..........june

I signed up - I think I'm the first one to represent NV.
That's the problem though - I joined some time ago - the only other member in my area is also on britnet and she cannot make the designated days/times and if anyone else should sign up unless there are (I think) four votes for a given establishment the event is cancelled. I have given up voting now until more people join.
I had the same problem, there doesn't seem to be anyone else in the whole state of Maine that has signed on to this.
Now I just delete the emails they send to go vote on a meeting place.

Is a "yike" a local term for an expat living in Winipeg?

Sorry I forgot to end the sentence after 5.
Yikes was just a term I was using as in *Yikes can't believe there are 5 expats in Winnipeg* You also would have to live in Winnipeg to see why I am surprised anyone would want to move here. lol
gsmom, my cousin lives in Winnipeg also. He has been there for 10 years now. He was born in Canada, but as a toddler came back to Wales with his mum. He is now 40. So you could add him as an extra wink
I've been along to the NYC one a couple of times, usually good fun and get to meet a lot of people. Not a bad way to spend a Monday night smile
So anyone in the area thinking of coming along you should do grin .
Don't know why they keep putting Starbucks as one of the places for Brits to meet up though, thankfullly the pub always wins the vote razz
I joined (?) and they collered me immediatly to host the next meet
Yep - I've tried but seems like v. few Brit expats live in my immediate vicinity - not sure how to select meeting in a different area - maybe NYC - anyone know?
If you go to the "My Account" page then look towards the bottom you'll find a menu in small type. In that menu is "Suggest a Venue".

Hope this helps.
