Forgive me for repeating this type of a post, but I thought it might get more exposure in this section

Does anyone know if Melton Mowbray or any other (vastly more inferior) brands of pork pies are available anywhere in Canada (or the USA for that matter)? Marks and Spencers used to carry them here in Calgary but then they got all 'mardy' (upset) with Canada and went off 'ome again (took their ball an' all).

I bought 14 pies when they closed shop but they only lasted two minutes (well not literally). I once tried to bring a great big pork pie in from the UK but customs took it off of me. The next time I brought over tiny ones and didn't tell them. I hate North American Customs but that's another story...

On an unrelated matter. I just thought that I would graciously make every one feel bad by telling you that we can get first class fish & chips (and mushy peas) in Alberta (and SE British Columbia) from a franchise called "Joey's Only." We usually get cod, but I treated myself to some haddock last week and almost wept into my Big Rock (English style) Traditional Ale. Ah, but now I'm bragging...

Good one, I like it.
I hear that eating pork pies increases the risk of one catching Mad Pig Disease, the symptoms of which are the falling down a lot and wallowing in ones feces. Come to think of it...

Weirdo (apparently)

Tim, you make me laugh. I spent half an hour trying to a find a pork pie in Canada for you, but failed razz
I go to Niagara-on-the lake just over the border in canada and there is a store there that sells every kind of meat pie, sausage roll, and pastry you can imagine. Its run by one of many thousands of scots who moved there.
Mr B,

I'd go a long way for a pork pie, but Niagara (about 2000 miles from Calgary) is a bit much. Thanks for the thought though. The quest continues.

Well here's a novel idea. Why not do an Internet search (I hear that the Internet is really catching on). I did one and found the following site right here in Calgary:

The British Pantry

http://www.britishpantrycanada.com

They have the same brand of pork pies that used to be sold by Marks and Spencers. The large one (400g) is $7.99 Can.

I'm off
