I know that common opinion dictates that I should have cooked my Christmas pud sometime around feb 1978 for it to be perfect for Christmas day but due to various circumstances beyond my control I haven't got around to it this year.

My question is, if I cook a Christmas pud now, come Christmas day will it be just plain awful or will it just lack finess.

The important question I suppose is, will it still be better than an a store bought alternative.
I'm sure it will be fine. It may be a little more crumbly that one that has been allowed to mature but don't worry. Make some nice rum sauce to go with it and all will be well.

Incidentally, some store-bought ones can be quite good! I have one in the cupboard that my Mum brought me over in May, which I intend to take to Lisa and Jim's with me in January.....should have festered nicely by then!
