I have to make cookie dough to roll out, cut, bake and be decorated by children by Saturday afternoon. I am useless at baking and have no idea what would be a good recipe for rolling, cutting and decorating!
Anyone got a good recipe? Please???
Thankyou smile
Funny you should mention that, as i have just finished baking the parts of a gingerbread house for my children to decorate tomorrow evening. It is a wonderful easy to manage cookie dough. If you would like the recipe please let me know.
From Land O lakes, but I have used this recipe a lot.
BEST EVER BUTTER COOKIES
These crisp, tender, buttery cut-out cookies can be decorated to capture the spirit of the holiday season.
Preparation 1 hrs.
Baking 6 min.
Chilling 2 hrs.
Cooling 15 min.
Cookie Ingredients
1 cup LAND O LAKES® Butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder
Frosting Ingredients
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup LAND O LAKES® Butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
Combine 1 cup butter, sugar and egg in large mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy (1 to 2 minutes). Add flour, orange juice, vanilla and baking powder. Reduce speed to low; beat until well mixed (1 to 2 minutes).
Divide dough into thirds; wrap in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate until firm (2 to 3 hours).
Heat oven to 400°F. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface, one-third at a time (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), to 1/8 to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 2-inch cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 6 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool completely.
Combine powdered sugar, 1/3 cup butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla in small mixer bowl. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often and adding enough milk for desired spreading consistency. Tint frosting with food color, if desired. Frost and decorate cooled cookies as desired.
Thanks saucywitch - I have all that stuff to hand, surprisingly!
Peterboroughborn - I would also like the gingerbread recipe too please!
Ok. first in a mixing bowl, on medium speed, cream together the butter(2 sticks),3/4 cup brown suar,2 Tsp baking soda, 2 Tsp cinnamon,2 Tsp ginger,1/2 Tsp cloves & 1 Tsp salt. Now add molasses 3/4 cup , mixing untill all incorpated. Add the flour 5 & 3/4 cups , a little @ a time untill all is combined. With the mixer running add 3/4 cup of cold water .Put into a ball & cover in cling film (plastic wrap) in the fridge for a couple of hours. Now I choose to use this recipe for my gingerbread house each year as the dough is so forgiveing and easy to manage.
Thankyou, both! Copying, printing and baking right now!
