Hola y'all

This is a purely hypothetical situation. I have had my Green Card for a couple of years now. If I get a divorce from my American wife, how does that affect my residency? Does it affect anything else?
I think that from the date of residencey you wife has pretty much a 2 year window where you better buy her flowers every day. After that point, you can show your true colors and start actually being honest about her cooking and her mother.
That two year window is not hard and fast.

So long as you could prove at any time after the marriage ended that you married for conventional reasons and not to circumvent the US Immigration Laws, then the provisions are removed and your Green Card upgraded to Full.

I panicked when I received divorce documents 4 weeks before my Provisions were to expire but it wasn't the end of the world.
If the conditions have been removed from your residency (assuming they have since you said you've had your green card for more than two years) and you entered into the marriage on good faith, then you should have nothing to worry about regarding your residence.

Your wife, however, will still be responsible for her part of the I-864 Affidavit of Support until you either naturalise, die, abandon your residency or work 40 quarters.

If you wish to apply for naturalisation, you'll have to wait until you've had your green card for 5 years rather than the 3 for those married to US citizens.
Thanks Pilgrim - now how do I close this thread?
