I'm here working under a H-1B visa, is there a minimum time I have to have been here before I can start to apply for the Green Card. Can anyone out there give any thoughts/advice. Thanks in advance...
I think it is 2 years, but I'm not definite on that. We were on an H1B to start off with and then changed it to an L1A so I only remember a little about how long we would have had to wait. smile
I'm not sure what a LA1 is, but the problem with 2 years down the line is that in 2005 my 136 visa for permanent migration to Oz expires. Looks like maybe I've got a hard decision to make 2 yrs down the road ???
My company started my green card process about 8-9 months or so into my H1B. Reasons for the delay were that it took 2-3 months to get to the USA to start work (after start of H1-B) and then I had a 6 month probationary period at work.

My (soon to be ex) company says 1 year, but they would have started sooner once they decided they liked me.

I dragged my heels because I wasn't sure I liked them enough to stay with them 3 years until the green card process was up. Then I went back to the UK for two weeks and that was enough to get my rear end in gear smile
I guess what I really need to know is can I apply off my own bat and not get my employer involved, or does my employer need to have an input. Personally I'd like to keep the employer at a long arms length if possible
