Can I get this by mail-order? I'm sick of the rubbish that passes for bacon here. Makes me long for Sainsbury's smoky bacon rashers ....mmmmm proper bacon butties...

grin
Yes you can. I can get British bacon frozen here, but I find the quality is rubbish, so I don't buy it.

What I have found is that I can substitute "country ham" for bacon quite well. It may not look like bacon or pass a side-by-side taste test, but it certainly fools the part of my brain that craves bacon.
try this thread bacon
Thanks Monster, I will check that out also.

Whilst we're on the subject, any decent bread? I miss my toast!
Someone mentioned recently that Panera has the best bread. There's one at Forest Fair and one at Tri-County, if you are interested.
I wonder if it has that same denseness that good English bread has? I'll look into it!
There have been several bread threads in this forum, so it's probably easier if you do the search rather than my posting up several links. The word "bread" should do it grin (make sure you confine your search to this forum, though, or you'll be here all week lol)
Someone told me that Canadian Bacon is pretty much as close to English Bacon as you can get, they also told me a lot of stores sell it, I have not been able to find one store that sells Canadian Bacon here, However if anyone finds it can they check it out and let me know if it really is as good as English bacon?
Canadian bacon is nothing like English bacon. Don't know who told you that. It is the lean "eye" that you find in back bacon but that's it. If you have a Stop and Shop near you, ask there. If they don't have it in then ask at the customer services desk for a "Product Request Form", then PM me for the details required to put on it. smile

Canadian bacon is like a cross between the eye of British/Danish bacon and a gammon steak!
Thanks for clearing up this point, I beleive all the stop n shops are on the East coast, I have not found one here in California yet cry
At least Canadian bacon sounds a bit better than this American stuff, I cant stand it!
There is a small Brit store about 30 miles from me in Fullerton that sells the frozen stuff, It`s not that good and VERY expensive though. I understand theres a store which is part of a Brit pub in Santa Monica, I shall try to get there one day soon and see what they have to offer, might try the pub whilst I am there too grin
Canadian Bacon goes lovely on a Hawaian pizza but that's the only time I ever eat it.

It's still better than American bacon - do they use artificial pigs here or something????

Irish Bacon is available here - it is good back bacon. Also at some Stop and Shops but alas I know not if you have a lot of demand for Irish foods in CA.

I think I made mention of this stuff a long long time ago, yes you can get the Irish back bacon here, but also (and WAY better) Niman Ranch back bacon kicks the pants of anything back in the UK.

You can also Danish back bacon here, or at least "down here" where we live like ooarr ooarr..
