I've just remembered something we used to do in the UK and might be do-able here for those interested...

We made chocolate fairy cakes /cup cakes, dusted them with icing sugar for a misty effect then inserted a rice paper (edible) ghost in the top so it looked like a spirit rising from a swamp.

We cut the ghosts out with craft knives/scalpels, with a rounded head, rounded arms and then wispy wiggly tail trailing off (the bit that was inserted into the cut in the top of the cake). We cut out oval eyes and a howling mouth and they were really effective.

Can you get rice paper here, and if so is it available at a reasonable price or is it a rip-off from Jo-Ann Fabrics or equivalent?
Those cupcakes sounds good. Not sure about rice paper but I remember that stuff!

Just been out tonight and had some dip. You put cream cheese on a plate cover it with warm caramel and smother it with nuts. Put sliced apple round the edges to dip in. Reminded me of the Nutty bar we used to be able to buy in England (except softer)
The only "rice" paper I have seen here has been labelled as "not for consumption" - like those little silver balls we used to decorate cakes with. Not sure why though.

I am not even sure if their paper is the same as our rice paper. Maybe a bakery would be able to help.
