Sorry for the dodgy tagline there everyone!!
Has anyone actually either played or seen any snooker matches over here yet? I see that ESPN shows pool and I did see that there was Billiards but it wasnt the billiards I know!! It was conventional pool with the numbers and the stripes!!
Remember how popular TV snooker coverage was and apparently still is in the UK? I must admit I was one of the millions who watched Dennis Taylor beat Steve 'Interesting' Davis to win the World Championship! Does anyone remember some of the 'characters' like Alex 'hurricane' Higgins, Jimmy 'whirlwind' White, 'steady' Eddie Charlton, Ray 'the count' Reardon and many more.........
I read the other day Stephen Hendry beat Ronnie O' Sullivan to win the european championships thats about all Ive seen of snooker in a long time. Does anyone else either love it or hate it? Remember any other characters or infamous players or games and care to share? !! Did anyone watch Jim Davidson and John Virgo with their Give Us A Break gameshow?

all my regards
Alan
With my name, I should be a snooker expert (exact same name as a professional player) but sadly not. The wife humiliated me at pool once when we were in Vancouver although she did cheat wink (seriously!)

I've never seen snooker here just pool like you. I thougt I caught it once but I think I was probably mistaken.

We get to play pool with an office we contract with - I think that's how we got the contract actually. They made us go out to the pool hall with them one Friday lunchtime and we had such a good laugh, we got a nice contract out of it. It's fun but I am so hopeless at anything involving angles!
I think they just don't do it over here. I used to love (attempting to) play, but hated to watch it. Then I had my first baby and found that it can be quite entertaining to watch when you're stuck in a chair in front of the TV at silly times of the day and night!

I find it's one of those pub games at which you improve with a pint or two (and then rapidly deteriorate with subsequent drinks) -darts is another example.

I got quite good at darts when I was a student in Birmingham, but then I met my other half and started to play more in Nottingham where they stand much closer to the board. I was crap at that distance and gave up, disheartened. Now I'm so out of practice, I'd be lucky to hit the board!
I never really liked snooker, so I don't miss it (even though I live within walking distance of the Crucible in Sheffield). I used to play pool on a team at Univeristy - then when I played American pool (admittedly while I was still in Sheffield) I found it quite easy because of the huge pockets, which meant you didn't have to be so precise with the angles.

I would play pool here, but I have no one to play with sad
snooker.
there are few and far between. the best bet would be to go to a pool hall with very good players and ask them if they knew another hall with a table.
i used to know of a couple in the boston area but they no longer exist.
happy hunting
