British Expatriate Network

Full Version: Volunteer Positions at Britnet are now available.

As part of expanding and redesigning Britnet, I would like to encourage people to volunteer for various positions. This will help us quickly expand and be more competative with other expat sites.

Each state will gets its own seperate website such as http//www.tx.british-expats.com, http//www.ma.british-expats.com etc. As a side from this, if there is anyone who would like to do Canadian provinces and other counties (Yes, we can have dk.british-expats.com or es.british-expats.com) then we can handle that too.

We will have a standard layout sheet that would need to be maintained for each state.
Also, volunteers are needed to research and funish the 'webmaster' for each state with information. Please volunteer for as many states as you wish. I will do Texas and you'll be able to see it as an example.

As mentioned, researchers are needed to find British stores, pubs, and basically anything in the state remotely British.

The next position is for someone who would like to keep up to date with media. Ie, maintaining a list of British radio and TV stations on the net, local expat sites back in the UK.

Next I would like to setup a small advocacy group to promote the work of the other volunteers by getting Britnet listed on other expat related websites by way of reciprocal links. No HTML knowledge required.
The emphasis is on "We're all in this together".

As you can see, there are a lot of plans for Britnet and I just don't have the time to do it all myself.

To make sure all gets done that needs to be done, MacZippy is going to handle replies and I'll be accountable to him to get things setup properly. If you are interested then send Maczippy a private message stating your interests and your knowledge level as far as computers go. We'll have an online training session if needed.

Regards
Nigel

Okay - a quick update to let you know that I haven't forgotten about y'all.

I will post some ideas for brainstorming sometime this week.

Stay tuned, stay cool, and thanks to those that have volunteered.

We will have the coolest expat place on the web because we have the coolest expat people anywhere!

Yup, I've been thinking about it this weekend. If anyone sees me mention the BEP - I'll be talking about the Britnet Expansion Project smile

I thought I'd already volunteered but if no one is doing Oregon, I'd be happy to take care of that.
As I said in a personal post, my work pressure will not allow me the time to keep up a web site on my own, however I would be more than happy to submit articles of Brit places I visit here in LA County, I would be happy to help out with joint responsibilites for an LA site, assuming I could add stuff when I have time, mainly weekends, With my job I dont even get holidays off so time really is against me, but again I would be willing to help in any way I can.

I know I've asked this before but I forgot who replied now and got busy and stuff.

Britnet is looking for someone to look after the web ring. Basically you'll have the following duties

*) Receive email from newly subscribed sites
*) Check new sites fit within guidelines that we'll create
*) Ensure the site has the webring is correctly configured
*) Manage new and existing webrings, delete old and unsuitable rings
*) Periodically check the websites are still in existance and are within the guidelines.

Please note, there is quite a backlog.

I'll provide full training. Everything is web based so no prior HTML or coding experience is necessary - just time to commit to the project.

Nigel
