Last night at 12:30am I got back from a road trip to Milwaukee to see my beloved Richmond Kickers take on the Milwaukee Rampage in the A-League Championship. We lost 2-1 in extra time, but other than that it was a fantastic time.

Driving from Richmond to Milwaukee is quite a haul, 14 hours in fact. We went through Cincinnati, Indiana and Chicago - which was cool and a new experience for me.

We checked into a hotel at 6am and although I should of slept I went out with a friend (the Kickers mascot) and explored Milwaukee, including a Miller Brewery tour which included three 8oz samples.

The Richmond fans (about 18 of us) and a few others (from Minnesota and Portland) all gathered before the game and 'tailgated' and knocked a ball around in the car-park. Two hours later we prepared ourselves in the 'stadium' (a stand with three grass banks).

After the game started our little group chanted throughout the game, outshouting the home crowd at a 6,000 capacity stadium. Even after they went ahead in the first round. When we equalized we went crazy!

When the winner went in for Milwaukee we were silent as the Rampage fans ran on the field. We stepped forward and saluted our boys, applauding them for playing a great game and a great season. We were thanked for making the trip.

We went back to the hotel and were invited to the teams post game party, they were a little happier here as they obviously began to reflect on what they had achieved rather than what they hadn't.

Best moment of the night was when a few friends and myself stood up to leave, the team applauded us. They stood and clapped and thanked us again for making the trip out. That was an awesome feeling!

The trip home the next day wasn't as long as it might have been, we had a fantastic time and reminisced in the car. One of the players even give one of my friends his runners-up medal.

I guess the point is, if you like football - perhaps miss it a bit, go and support your local team. Be as passionate as the British know how, find the local group of hardcore supporters. You will be appreciated and you will love it. It's so much more rewarding than being a Premiership fan (not sure about lower divisions, they may be like this - let me know).

The final will be repeated late tonight on Fox Sports World if you want to watch/record it. check http://www.foxsportsworld.com for the schedule.

Which one is you then?

What chants did you do?

When I was at Columbus Crew the other week, they had some decent chants mixed in with the dire ones lifted from Gridiron.

Oh and here's a chant related to your picture

"Who are ya?"
Well there was some pretty basic ones such as
"Richmond, Richmond, Richmond" and "We love you Richmond we do"

we did "Come on you Reds" since we were in our all red kit.

Lets see...

"Hello, Hello, we are the Cornerkicks"
(lifted from "we are the Geordie Boys" admittedly).

"You're supposed to be at home" because the announcer had to keep 'encouraging' the home fans to make some noise.

One of the best things we did was use their own fans against them. The team had 'hired' a high school band to play occasionally, except when they played something it was our fans singing along instead of theirs (eg, drum drum drum drum drum drum drum drum drum Richmond!).

There was "Stupid Cockney bast@rd" to one of their defenders from London, that wound him up real bad so it became "Stupid Cockney w@nker". The guy kicked the ball at us at one point - and he threatened us while on the field (did the rotating finger substition sign then pointed at us - as if to say when he comes off he's coming for us) Good stuff!

Basic stuff that's easy to do in a small group, maybe we'll get more eloborate next year. I found a Stutgart Kickers mp3 from Germany called "Das Kickers Song" that we could adapt.

As for who am I? I'm the guy in the red shirt standing in between the girl in the white Columbia/HCA shirt and the guy holding the sign. I need a hair cut.

Aha! So you're the good-looking one then! lol

Soooo relieved that you're *not* the guy holding the sign, I thought it was a Newcastle shirt he was wearing so I'd guessed it was you as I know you're a Geordie! razz
Ah - I guessed that was you.

Some quality chants there and the 'cockney' episode is quite class grin

"You're supposed to be at home" is rather advanced for the States so hope that catches on smile

Careful! I maybe from the North East but that doesn't mean I'm a Geordie. My Dad's side of the family are all scousers so I was born a Liverpool fan.

I believe the black and white top is the Kickers shirt from two seasons ago, so glad they dropped that when I moved here - supporting a team that plays in black and white would be a little strange.

The three guys at the far right on the front row are actually the parents and the sister of the Kickers goalkeeper who scored the winning penalty in the semi-final when we won 9-8 on PKs.

I have lived in US for 18 years and my favorite "drive" is along California's coast line - Pacific coast highway. They have great towns/beach towns you can stop in.. England is a beautiful country but drive along Highway 1 would get my vote...
