Full Version: NFL - Early thoughts on Contenders?

Only two weeks into the season and already there are surprising developments.

The perenial favourites (St Louis) have yet win (proving that New England were not 'lucky' in the superbowl). Neither have the Steelers (including an embarresment on the opening Monday Night in New England).

In the AFC Denver look to be better than the 'predicted' average, and Miami are a strong possibility, and New England are proving 2001 was no fluke!

In the NFC the ONLY team that looks good is (wait for it.....) New Orleans
eek No other team has had consistancy in this conference. Atlanta are winless and look good, Carolina are undefeated and are poor.... strange start.

Did I mention New England wink
Right now they look good, and baring injury are going to be tough to beat this year.

It may come as no surprise to know I am a HUGE Patriots fan (and have been since the tender age of 14 (17 years ago)). This is the first time I have felt we have a 'great team', even though we have been to the big show 3 times (since I was a supporter).

So who do you think will contend SuperBowl XXXVII?

For me I am going with
My heart says New England vs Philadelphia
My brain says Miami or New England Vs Philadelphia or The Rams (they are too good and 0-2 will not be the end of them!)

Well, I'm not really into american football, although I did see the superbowl, but having seen the patriots demolish the NY Jets at the weekend I think they're in with a good shout.
The NFL has this season got waht its been aiming for PARITY with the movement of players during the off season and the salary cap no team has the *lock*on the franchise players and some of the newly drafted players this year will have a immediate impact on the team that picked them .

I would like my team *WASHINGTON REDSKINS * to at least get to the play offs this year but who knows the Nfc east is tight and could be anybodies ....

Yes i do think the PATRIOTS can repeat but doing that becomes harder every year and one bad game can easily put the div playoffs out of reach .

.
Its a litte early so ill give my top 4 in each conferance

From the AFC .

Pats .
Raiders .
Denver.
Buffalo.

From the NFC

Redskins.
rams.
Eagles.
New Orleans .

The Oakland Raiders are looking like a good bet this year, 2-0, Gannon looking in good form. But like last year we'll prob get to the play-offs only to be knocked out by the eventual champs, New England. They only win because they represent a whole region  . The Raiders have only a city to cheer them on.
RAIDERS

You had better wink:-) mentioning those cokeboys the Redskins bitter rivals

Not really into football (I watch college football occasionally though) but if I was, I would go for my 'local' team, the Seahawks.

A couple of our graduates got drafted last year although the one I thought was the best ended up with the 49'ers but is not on their roster for this year so maybe he wasn't so good after all.

I see a little of the seahawk's game last weekend.

What a beautiful new stadium theyve got!!

it was a pity they lost, but Paul Allen's money was spent well there!!

I suppose it was a little loose change for him ?

I watched both of New England's games and they looked good against the steelers and looked ominously better against a poor shell shocked Jets team!!

The saints looked pretty good too, unlike the Rams!!

The 2 suprises might be Cleveland, and definately the panthers who are both also 2-0!!

I watched the most insane game last weekend!!

The Bills beat the Vikings 45-39 in a high scoring shootout!!

Buffalo has got a potent offence with Drew Bledsoe, Peerless Price, Eric Moulds, Josh Reed and Travis Henry; but where they have all that offense they lack in special teams, and also in defence.

I'll try to watch a couple of games this season at Ralph Wilson stadium, I think one of the highlights has got to be when the Patriots play there in November.

My favourite in the AFC east has got to Miami, but New England look pretty strong.

In the NFC, New Orleans look pretty good, as do the Eagles and Chicago.

I'm just thinking about who I thought was going to win it last season?

Whoever I tip usually ends up having the kiss of death!!

So Definately Miami!!

all the best
Alan
