Hi guys

Just had to share my excitement, as I had my interview this week at the US Embassy in London and got the green light ! We are so excited, and think we might come over in February 2003.

After 4 years of collecting paperwork and filling in forms it's kind of heart wrenching to have a 2 minute interview that is so easy, but I am sure if we didn't have all that stuff they would have asked the one question or aksed to see the one form we didn't have.

The medical was okay, had a few jabs and stuff and then we all waited back at the Embassy to see if we were in. Agonisingly, I was the last person to be called and I thought they were gonna turn me down, but no, they handed me a sealed envelope, and said that next time I set foot on US soil, a stamp goes in my passport that makes me a PERMANENT RESIDENT. I can't get used to it, it's so cool.

Now that I have the okay, I want to start applying for jobs. How easy is it to arrange work from this end? I don't expect to be working for an international company, so having an interview in the UK is out. Do US companies ever do telephone interviews?

Cheers

Gary

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy living over here - it certainly takes some getting used to. good luck finding a job too smile

Yes Telephone interviews are done in the US

Congrats on the GC

Gary, congratulations.

There's always monster.com, put your resume on there, that's how we got hubby's job here !!

Nicky
I remember when I worked in personnel we used to set up a lot of video interviews, though they were mainly for recruiting UK sales staff.

Congrats on your immigrant visa!
Thanks for the useful tips.

I shall take up your suggestions and see how things go.

Watch this space !!

Cheers

Gary
Congratulations of your visa, Gary.

The only things I can remember about getting a job in the US (and this is going back 16 years now) is that 1) you will need a really snappy resumé - everything (what you have achieved in the past and what you are looking for in a new job) all on one page, and 2) that it is perfectly acceptable for you to write to companies with a letter of introduction and your resumé, whether they have advertised a vacancy or not.

Good luck!
Congratulations! Now the fun begins smile

I used Hotjobs.com, i have my resume on monster.com as well but have always got better responses from hotjobs.com (maybe because its a little newer?). I'd probably use their resource pages to get resume writing tips, I found them to be very different from CV's. If you ever need a job in the Waltham area of Boston, send us an email lol
