I've just been printing off a load of recipes, off the http//www.deliaonline.com website (some absolutely gorgeous recipes, and came out just lovely. I'm going to bind them all together I think).

Anyway, my point is, she requires SUET in quite a few of the christmas recipes.

Does anyone know if we can get suet here, and which store would it be from, I've looked in a couple and didn't see anything ???

thanks,

Nicky

I got two boxes in my cupboard, and I do believer Draegers (harrods equivalant for food) stocks it.
I'll post some if you can't get it grin
Don't think you can get it, at least we've never seen it, but I'm sure McZeeeeee can get it from his huge range of brit shops in Capitola.
We got Lisa's parents to bring some over, so Lisa can make her mincemeat for Christmas.
Had to get the vegetarian stuff though, as there's still that ban on importing beef products. cry

Don't forget to do a search within recipes for "SUET", I posted some information a long time ago regarding suet:

If you run a search you'll see a number of threads on the subject..

You should be able to get it from a butcher.
I agree..I usually get it from my butcher at the supermarket.
What would I do without all of you !!!

THANKS wink
as I originally posted...

Good quality suet is made from the hard fat that is found around the kidneys and loin of the cow, it is the bovine version of pigs fat (lard/manteca). You can use other hard fats fromt he cow, but if you can get the fat from those areas it will be better.

Chill the pieces of fat in the freezer for about 20 minutes or so, then chop the fat finely but *don't* use a blender or food processor, as the heat (friction) will cause it to break down.

Shortening (such as Crisco), beef drippings, chicken fat, pork fat or butter can be used in it's place.

Atora regards...
Aaaahhhhh gawd, is that what Suet is !!! eek I'm not sure I want to make anything with it in now, it sounds gross !!!

Bluddi-ell !!!

Seems much nicer when it comes out of the Atora pack doesn't it?
I've never bought any to be honest, I didn't know anything about the stuff, only that Delia's lovely christmas stuff seems to want it, like lovely Home-made Christmas Mincemeat with Cranberries, for instance.

The stuff sounds awful though !! Suet, that is.

And it would be awful if you ate it every day. But having it occasionally, as in at Chrimbo and in the pie, is one of the riches of cooking and eating.

Okay, Okayyyyy, you've all convinced me, gross at it sounds, I'll go ahead and make some yummy stuff with it in, but try and ignore what it is. I have to start practicing for Thanksgiving and christmas.
