Dawn, may be able to help DD. She has a daughter who is 18. smile

I remember years ago someone I went to school with who was moving over here after her 'O' levels. She went straight onto Uni because of the UK qualifications.

If you can afford it, that would be my route. Maybe he could go part-time. I have applied for college (just a local community college) and just sat the entrance test to get in. If this test is anything to go by, a child of 16 in the UK system would have no problems, believe me. It isn't as expensive as the state colleges.

Are you in Manhattan?

ouch ouch .. can't help but wish you good luck.. My daughter is 16 out here on vacation ..she is just about to start 6th form college in uk in September .. heaven help me if she wanted to stay out her at 16 .. good luck ..hope somebody out there is able to help you..

DD - are you able to go to the Jubilee Bash tomorrow in CT?

We had to make major decisions a couple of years ago when we moved here from Singapore. Our daughter Jenny was then 16 and had just taken her IGCSE's at an International school. She is coming tomorrow so you might want to have a chat with her or/and myself.

Also Karyn will be there too. Her son (aged either 20 or 21 I think) is going to a local college, perhaps a community college (which I think is similar to the British local Colleges of Further Education). They offer Associate Degrees, which are two-year courses which I think are similar to "A" levels or the BTEC courses...Karyn should be able to tell you more about them, and maybe her son will be coming to the Britnet party too.

Feel free to send me a Private Message...if you can go tomorrow, just include your e-mail address or request same from Deborah and we will forward the address and directions. Even if you can't go, I will still be happy to try and help.

smile

I would suggest community college. At the grand old age of 42 I just graduated from college myself - it is expensive but you can get student loans or pay-as-you-go. My daughter will be 15 tomorrow and is going into her junior year at high school. We came over 10 years ago - obviously she was WAY too advanced to go into kindergarden so she went into 2nd grade and has always been with kids 2-3 years older than herself but it's been fine so don't worry too much about corruption. Hope it works out okay - keep us posted smile
