Hi,
As a dual citizen of US/UK (Naturalized US), the US authorities require me to leave and enter the US on a US Passport, however does that mean that I can enter the destination country, France for example, on my British (EU) passport. Or must I enter the destination country on the smae passport I left the originating country.
I can not seem to find definitve answers on this
Thanks,
Keith
from what i hear its up to you.. people say its easier to enter the uk on your british passport ..ie don't have to wait in line at immigration..as france is member of EU probably also easier to travel in europe on the British Passport.. Obviously youre gonna use your american passport when returning..Don't think they care if you haven't got any other countries stamps in the american passport .. but don't quote me..
better still send me the airline ticket to France ..and i'll check the procedure out ok lol
Yes you can. The first time I left the US as a US citizen, I left here on a US passport and arrived in the UK on my British one. I did it in reverse on my return. You get to join the citizens line in both countries that way smile
You *have* to use a US passport to enter and leave the US.
The UK don't really care what you do, if it's just for a short visit. If you are going to be working when you get there, you should use your UK passport.
We switched passports when we travelled to the UK last July. It didn't seem to confuse the computers then, but things may have changed now.
Yep ill reinforce that .
On my last trip abroad i left US on my US passport as soon as i got on the plane i stowed it away until i needed it for the return .
Not as thou using a US passport in europe gives you any problems ,its just using the UK/EU is so much easier /quicker
If you are a dual national you must enter and leave the appropriate country with the correct passport.
If entering a country which you are not a national of then either passport could be used.
Remember though, if you are going to another EU country for work or an extended visit then use your UK passport.

Does this mean that the UK has the same rule as the US; i.e., do you *have* to use the Brit passport to enter and leave the UK?

It would be best to do so. You could be delayed trying to leave on a foriegn passport which does not have an entry stamp.
