Just wondered if anyone has completed this process. If so, how long does this take and any advice on the process?
Our visa lasts til oct 2003.
We have 3 teenage sons who are are desperate to work.
It depends on your local INS office. I have friends who are going through this now, and they expect the entire process to take 15 months.
L2 visa holders can apply for EADs, enabling them to work. It's a new law that passed this year.
They can also apply for EADs and SSNs as soon as the immigration application goes in.
Ameriscot, I understand it is only L2 spouse holders that can get an EAD. Children on L2's can't get one.
If you are on L-1B, you may have to renew your visa because it is going to take 2 to 4 years to get your green card.
If you are on L-1A, you could get your Green Card in 12 to 15 months.

Thanks for that info, Paul. I wasn't sure - I was letting common sense get the better of me, which is a bad policy re immigration law. I wonder why they decided not to let kids work - the place is screaming out for low income workers?
I don't know Ameriscot. I know there are a couple of British children belonging to people on this site that are disappointed they can't work.
I went to go and try and get my EAD. It was a lot of hassle. In the end I didn't bother because my L2 runs out January and the EAD would only be valid until then. We are also in the process of applying for greencards.
We are going to have to get new L1A and L2's and then once I have my L2 then I might try again. I'll see where we are with our greencard application.
Thanks for all the advice, I am currently working with my EAD, Just a shame the kids can't yet. Spoke with the company and they are going to get on with it. Just hope they mean that.
No, the kids can't work on L2's. The new Act only applies to spouses of L1 visa holders evil evil
I think whoever instigated the original petition of the bill was a childless career-orientated woman... roll
