Hi people,

I wonder what the chances of us being covered for my medical? My wife works for an HMO so we have quite good cover, but the HMO she works for isn't an approved INS doctor. Is it likely the HMO would pick up the tab for the medical?
Hi Parsnipnose,

I remember us going through the same stuff you are.

A number of the tests/treatments are considered as routine preventative, such as chest x-rays, and immunizations, and may be covered if you have not already had such tests within the appropriate period.

The consultation itself and some of the tests are not covered, and you end up paying for them. The INS doctor will expect payment right there and then, and you have to claim from your health insurance. I think we ended up paying around $150 each, after our insurance had paid for what they were willing to cover.

Good luck !!

I didn't have health insurance back then and the whole thing only cost around $100 at an immigrant workers' hospital.

My immunizations were free because I went to a clinic for low income people and had them all done there. Surprising really as I had previously been led to believe that Americans had no social services but that is certainly untrue in Oregon.
Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input. Actually, I am in Washington State so a trip to a clinic in Oregon wouldn't be a problem. Can you remember where the clinic was?

Kind regards,

Hi, I am in Washington State, and my immigration Health/Medical was not covered by insurance. In total it cost $200 after shots and x-rays (if you can get hold of confirmation that you have received the required immunization shots (my spelling isn't too great, sorry) you will not need to have them again.

On your request for a medical there should be a list of all registered INS doctor's.

Hope this helps,
Melisas grin
