Full Version: Is a UK police caution a criminal record?

Hi people,

About 6 years ago I received a Police caution for having an air pistol in my office. Oddly enough, it was reported by a burglar, who was let go. Instead, I was taken to the Police Station and "interviewed" (they thought it wa sa real gun). In the end they just gave me a caution, much to my relief.

My immigration lawyer is of the opinion "it never happened", but I'm a bit worried this non-event might come back and haunt me when going for my change of status.

Should I be worried?

No Parsnip not at all, don't give it any more thought now. It was just a caution and doesn't count. You weren't arrested !!

I wont tell if you dont.

oh, that's really a relief. Thanks guys. i just re-read my last three posts and decided everyone here must think I'm really shady!

I'm not at all, I was just trying to protect my livelihood after the police told me "we can't do anything, but we can tell you we KNOW the burglars will come back now they have seen your computers".

Great. Thanks, Mr. Plod.
An official Caution follows an arrest normally, don't know how I would know that roll

In my younger days I broke the occasional law and had some minor convictions, including a Caution.

I wouldn't worry about it. They are looking for violent crimes and drug trafficers. Don't even make mention of it. It wont come back to haunt you smile

Peace

Richie
Hi,
if you have to adjust status,I assume you are already in America.
Didn't it appear on your UK police record
when you applied for your visa.
Anyway, it shouldn't be a problem even if it was, caution and reprimands for what are considered "minor offences" are irrelevant.
My daughter was "arrested" and cautioned for being in possession of a small amount of marijuana and apart from the fact that it happened after reciving a clean UK police report (which confused the officer at the interview)he mentioned it briefly, but said that it was not a problem.
Hey Guys

I just posted a new post about this, maybe you could help me.
I was sent to a magistrates court by the british transport police
some 20 years ago for not paying train ticket.I was let off due to
problems at home.... my parents were getting divorsed Do I have a criminal record?
Could this effect my application for immigration to Canada

I am really worried about it.If I do would they look at this as serious?
I have nothing else not even points off my licence

Thanks
Erica
It wasn't an issue until you posted here!

JOKE -)

I'm sure you'll be fine
Dont believe it counts i think they are looking for felonies i had a dwi when i came over and they didnt count that ....

What one of us didnt do something in our past , nobody is perfect .

except me.

off to wormwood scrubbs the lot of yer lol lol lol
If you were "let off" - do you mean that it wasn't prosecuted?
If not, no criminal record.
If it was, potentially you have a record, but probably an insignificant one.
I doubt it will worry immigation.
They tend to be looking for drugs and violence and other serious crimes.
