Hiya Bridge,

Just thought I'd say hello - I moved *from* Knoxville to Scotland 2 years ago. Work at UT? Or ORNL?

Hey Annie, how are you.
How do you like Scotland?
I work here in Knoxville as a Real Estate Appraiser. I have some good friends who are at UT though.
So were you born and raised in Knox, or did you just live here??

Hiya,
I could do with less rain and little more warmth, but otherwise I love Scotland.

I'm mainly from Michigan, but moved to Knoxville in 1990 for the warm winters and the mountains. Worked at UT till I moved here in 2000.

Hard to decide on which summer is worse though - 90's all summer in Knoxville, or 60's and rain and midges in West Scotland. Miss the great thunderstorms there too.

One of the bosses I had over here has a good friend she grew up with here who has been living in Knoxville for 30 years and is a teacher there. She has visited her over there. Small world, eh?

So have you firmly replaced hi and hello with hey as a greeting? grin

Get to the Smokies much? Have you ever seen anyplace as tacky as Pigeon Forge? lol
Hiya! I'm a Brit just moved to Nashville, and feeling like a fish out of water! Who said it was the same language??? If you want to talk, let me know razz
Hello Everyone
I hadnt checked this page in a couple of weeks, i was pleasantly suprised to see some replies!
Annie, its true, i have never seen anywhere quite as tacky as Pigeon Forge. Well, Blackpool in the UK comes close.
Boo Boo, welcome to Tennessee. At least you are in one of the more 'exciting' cities in Tennessee. I like Nashville a lot, Memphis is pretty cool to. What brings you to TN. I would like very much to talk with you. I have been here since 99 and I still feel like a fish out of water. I think it was Shaw who said ' America and England are two countries seperated by the same langauge'. Its sooo true.
BrigieDarling, hello to you. Where are you located in the US.???
hi bridge and boo boo. I'm not in Tennessee but in Arkansas. America definitely takes some getting used to but once you've been here awhile you fo adjust..except for this hot and humid weather i could live without.
Take care.
Karen.
Hey Britrose. I went to Arkansas once. Actually i was at the INS in Memphis and took a wrong turn. Before you know it, i see the welcome to Arkansas sign!
How long have you been there?
It surely is hot and humid in the South. I hibernate in the summer time. Hey i have red hair and a pale complexion, i wasnt made for the heat.
Hi Bridge,
Been in Arkansas for 15 yrs. and was in CA for a couple before that.
Arkansas is a beautiful part of the country but the summer weather i can do without. This year, although very hot and humid, hasn't been as bad as it was a couple of years ago when the heat index was over 115 degrees. I hibernate also and really look forward to to autumn.
Karen.
Hi Bridgezz,I have lived in Knoxville for nearly 3 years and have not met any Brits yet,my best mate over here is from Denmark and has watched a lot of british stuff growing so understands most of my humour...How do you like Tn?I lived in Texas before I came here and I really miss it.
Hey there Merseychick. I sent a message to your email address, dont know if you got it, excuse me if i am repeating myself and its all old news to you. Im glad you have someone who understands your humour, cause my wife and new familly think i am obnoxious. They dont get it. That dry wit that went over really well in the UK is taken as an insult when used here!
Actually, maybe i am just obnoxious and not really funny at all....
I have met a couple of Brits here but none that i talk to regulary. What keeps me sane is that i used to live next door to an American College in London and i keep in close contact with the friends i made there. They all lived in London for a year, and they get what im talking about. Or at least they tell me they do!! So you live in the posh part of town, out West. I am in the County, almost in the country. Its different, but i like it..
Ahh, Texas. One of my fondest memories, horse riding in Big Bend National park. Yes, i did recieve third degree burns from the sun, but it was worth it...
